History of the Lake

Before the cottagers, Morrison Lake was part of the First Peoples canoe route to Lake Muskoka.

The Morrison Lake Ratepayers Association (MLRA) would like to acknowledge that Muskoka sits on land that has been inhabited by Indigenous Peoples from the beginning. In particular we acknowledge the traditional territories of the Ojibway, the Chippewa, the Algonquin and the Odawa. Today Muskoka is home to three sovereign nations: Wahta Mohawks First Nations, Moose Deer Point First Nation and the Moon River Métis. These lands are covered by the Williams Treaty of 1923, the Robinson Huron Treaty of 1850 and the J. Collins land purchase of 1785.

Today there are 228 waterfront properties with over 200 full time and seasonal residences sharing and caring for Morrison Lake and all that it has to offer.

Please respect the Lake for future generations to come.

The Morrison Lake Cottagers Association (MLCOA) became the The Morrison Lake Ratepayers Association (MLRA) in 1973 and continues today.
