Renting Your Cottage

3 Simple Suggestions

  • Let your renters know that you are part of a lake community. Many people come to the lake for peace and tranquility – ask them, kindly, that they respect this fact – particularly after dark.

  • Provide information to help your guests who may not be used to lake life and septic systems with practical tips.  See link below for posters you can use.

  • Ensure that you do not have an overcapacity crowd in your cottage. Septic Systems are designed and sized by the number of people staying overnight.  Capacity = # of bedrooms x 2, therefore, a 3 bedroom cottage should not have more than 6 overnight occupants.

    • If you overload your septic system, RAW SEWAGE enters your tile bed and the water table.   This can result in polluting the lake and the need to replace your tile bed which can cost thousands of dollars.
